Name Giving Ceremony

A Name Giving Ceremony has long been the rite which society has used to welcome a child into the family.

As a  Civil Celebrant I'll  provide you with a wonderful opportunity to officially welcome your child into a loving circle of family and friends. Relationships within families are often deepened by preparing a carefully worded ceremony, and the parents and godparents, or mentors, become more aware of their responsibilities.

Naming Ceremonies are appropriate for everyone. The arrival of a new baby can be celebrated in this way as well as for older children , a beautiful way to affirm their self-esteem and give them a sense of unity with the family. baby naming baby naming baby naming ceremony

The ceremony is not a Baptism, or Christening, because such ceremonies are religious. The Name Giving Ceremony that I provide will in no way inhibit the child from making any future religious or non-religious commitments . During the ceremony it would be stated that, in fact, it is the duty of all of us, in the coming years, to present the child with a broad view of life and encourage them in the virtues that all agree as good - integrity, honesty, concern, fairness and love towards their fellow human beings.

Such a ceremony can be adapted to suit all situations that occur in families. Step children and adopted children can be welcomed into their new or extended family with a Naming Ceremony. baby naming naming ceremony

A Name Giving Ceremony is a wonderful opportunity to culturally express joy, hope and acceptance, and a chance to express these feelings in poetry and words of commitment.

There are many various symbols and rituals in the ceremony,  i.e. lighting of a  Naming Candle,  a Wish Box,  the Rose Petals Ceremony, the Sand Ceremony and many more

Godparents

They can be chosen from within the family or circle of friends.   Some parents choose older siblings to be godparents of their younger sisters or brothers.  Children must feel that they can trust this person or persons explicitly.  Godparents should be wise, honest and trustworthy role models who will have the best interests of your children and your family at heart.

Special recognition is given to the grandparents as well,   acknowledging the important role they will play in the development of the child.

At the end of the ceremony a certificate is presented to the parents, siblings, the godparents and the grandparents. Click here to view sample certificates .

Naming Ceremonies are a lot of fun. There is usually a lot of noise from the youngsters,   and the parents  are at ease,  relaxed ,  surrounded by friends and family. These ceremonies can be  held on the occasion of the child's first birthday, but not necessarily so.

A naming ceremony is a special occasion for your child and the whole family. I will assist you in  preparing a unique ceremony that is a very personal one revolving around the child, and offer you resource material to choose words and poems.Your input is very important and encouraged.
