Personalised Naming Ceremonies in Sydney & NSW

 Personalized Naming Ceremonies

Personalised naming ceremonies in Sydney and across NSW offer a meaningful, non-religious way to welcome a child into their family and community. Led by an experienced civil celebrant, each ceremony is thoughtfully written to reflect your values, include parents, godparents and grandparents, and create a warm, memorable celebration for all ages.

What is a Naming Ceremony?

A naming ceremony is a symbolic celebration where family and friends gather to officially name a child, acknowledge shared responsibility, and express hopes for their future. The ceremony can include parents’ promises, godparent commitments, grandparent recognition, and meaningful rituals chosen by the family.

  • Families often choose a Naming Ceremony as a meaningful, non-religious alternative to a christening or baptism. With complete freedom to personalise the ceremony, parents can express their love and commitment, share hopes for their child’s future, and highlight the values—such as honesty, integrity, and compassion—they wish to nurture from an early age.
  • Name Days are different from Baptism or Christening. They offer more flexibility for family involvement and personalization.

  • Parents can express their love and commitment to the child, sharing hopes and aspirations for their future.

  • Ceremonies are tailor-made for each child, including:

    • Officially naming the child

    • Nominating godparents, supporting adults, or mentors

    • Recognizing the role of grandparents and the wider community in raising the child

  • Overall, a Naming Ceremony celebrates not just the child, but the love, guidance, and support of the entire family and community.

Each ceremony is designed to feel warm, inclusive, and reflective of your family, rather than formal or scripted.

Naming Ceremony Celebrant

Who can have a Naming Ceremony?

Both babies and older children can celebrate Naming ceremonies. While at times we hold name-giving ceremonies on the occasion of the child’s first birthday, but not necessarily so. Therefore, we can celebrate this occasion either when the child is a few months old or a few years old.

Why have a Naming Ceremony?

Naming ceremonies are a wonderful celebration first of all to express joy, hope and acceptance. And furthermore, the ceremonies are a wonderful time to officially welcome your child into a loving circle of family and friends.

Are Name Days Ceremonies like a party?

Name Giving Ceremonies are a lot of fun. Hence, there is usually a lot of noise from the youngsters, and the parents are at ease, relaxed, surrounded by family and friends. So yes, it is like a party, but a very significant one.

Where can we celebrate your child’s Naming Ceremony?

Naming ceremonies can be held for babies or older children and may take place at home, in a park, or at a chosen venue anywhere in Sydney or NSW. Each ceremony is personalised, inclusive, and designed to feel relaxed, warm, and reflective of the family rather than formal or scripted.

Godparents in naming ceremonies

You can choose the godparents from within the family or circle of friends, either older siblings to be godparents of their younger sisters or brothers. Godparents should be wise, honest and trustworthy role models who will have the best interests of your children and your family at heart.

Grandparents in naming ceremonies

So grandparents receive special recognition, while of course, we acknowledge the important role they will play in the development of the child.
